Fire elevator is an elevator with certain functions for firefighters to extinguish and rescue when a building fire occurs. Fire elevators have high fire protection requirements, and their fire protection design is very important. In reality, some "fire elevators" are just ordinary passenger elevators with functions such as returning to preset base stations or evacuation floors. They cannot be used in the event of a fire.

Fire-fighting elevators usually have perfect fire-fighting functions. First of all, there must be dual power supply, that is, if the power supply of the building elevator is interrupted, the extraordinary power of the fire-fighting elevator can be automatically switched on and can continue to run. Secondly, it should have an emergency control function, that is, when there is a fire upstairs, it can receive instructions and return to the first floor in time. It will no longer continue to accept passengers and can only be used by firefighters. The last point is that an emergency evacuation exit should be reserved at the top of the car. If the elevator door opening mechanism fails, you can also evacuate here. The fire elevator should be provided with a front room to facilitate smoke prevention and exhaust and firefighters to start work. The fire elevator is the main offensive route for firefighters to enter the fire position in the building. In order to facilitate the opening of the passage, a fire riser and a fire hydrant should be set in the front room. In addition, the front room should be equipped with fire doors to make it fire and smoke resistant.

Decoration materials in fire elevators must be non-combustible building materials. Fire-fighting elevator power and control wires shall be waterproofed. Slow-waterproof measures shall be provided at the entrance. There should be a special telephone in the fire elevator car, and there should be a special operation button on the first floor. If the functions are up to standard in these aspects, in case of a fire in the building, the fire elevator can be used for fire rescue.

The vertical shaft of the fire elevator shall be set up separately, no other electrical pipes, water pipes, air pipes or ventilation pipes shall pass, and drainage holes and drainage facilities shall be provided at the bottom of the shaft. If the fire elevator is lower than the basement, the water at the bottom of the well can be drained directly to the outside. In order to prevent the water from pouring back in the rainy season, a single flow valve should be set on the outer wall of the drainage pipe. If it cannot be discharged directly to the outdoors, a pool of not less than 2 cubic meters can be set up at or below the bottom of the well, and the water from the pool is pumped to the outside by a pump with a displacement of not less than 10 litres per second.
